Some blacks' ancestry in the U.S. go back to early colonial days, the 1600s.  Some were brought over in the early 1800s.

The Spanish brought African slaves to Haiti (which was then called Hispanola) in 1513.  It was another 100 years before the first Africans arrived in Virginia in 1619.  

Haiti abolished slavery in 1804, so not many Africans arrived after that date.  But the United States continued to import slaves from Africa until 1807 or later.  

Soooo... it's probably safe to say that most black families from Haiti have been away from Africa longer than most black families in the U.S.

That is an interesting question. I would say yes, as the trafficers would stop off to those islands first, then hit NC, Sc, GA, VA,NY
