I've seen quite a few blown out photos lately... and supposedly, they're done on purpose.

  1. There rare times when a blown out image can have a wonderful ethereal feel about it. Neither of these images are good enough to obtain that point. They just come across as poorly exposed images.

  2. yeah, they're cool.

  3. Poorly composed and over exposed is not being artistic.

  4. i think they are

  5. In the second picture, The main idea must have been to get the 'milky effect' from water. This is done by increasing the time the shutter is open.

In doing so, the artist has also overexposed the back.

Instead, the whole effect should have been achieved by using a neutral denisty (ND) filter.

  6. aesthetics are subjective.  Regardless of the artist's intent or the style of the day, if the viewer finds it beautiful then it is, to that viewer, beautiful.

  7. They are definitely not cool.  When a person lacks the skill to properly compose and use the correct exposure they should try to learn how to be a better photographer instead of thinking that poor quality photos are cool.

  8. If someone is shooting digital.... it is very easy to get that look with just overexposing a picture.  Sure, this can be by accident or on purpose.  But most professionals would look down upon and not agree with this technique. BUT more artists see this as creativity.  Do what you like, and be proud of your work.  If you get positive comments you know others like it too!

    Thanks for reading!

  9. Nope.  They're not cool at all.  To me, they simply look like they were taken by someone who doesn't know how to use a camera and couldn't get a decent exposure.

Those pictures would look MUCH better if they were properly exposed.  Photography is a creative art, but it is also a craft that has to be practiced and developed.  There are some cases where defects can add character to a picture and make it interesting if it's not overdone.  But in this case, it was completely overdone.  Those pictures are totally blown out and just look horrible.  I have to agree with the others, overexposed and poorly composed pictures are not artistic or creative.  They're just bad pictures.
