Question:

Are blue-Ray players any good?

I'm thinking of getting a blue-ray player and a HDTV but then I heard things like a blue-ray player has to be connected to the internet and that the discs for it will only work in the first player they're put in. Is any of that stuff true? Also, can you still hook a blue-ray player to a SDTV if you want to?

  1. Blu Ray players do not need to be connected to the internet. Some allow you to do this, and these are probably better, since there has been talk of changing specifications on the blu-ray format, and it will be easy to update the player if this happens. Still, as it stands, your blu-ray player does not need an internet connection. Also, I have NEVER run into a blu-ray disc that can only be played in one player. That would be ridiculous, so no, that is not true either.

If you were planning on hooking a blu-ray player to an SD TV, then don't bother getting the blu-ray player. There is no point. The only reason to switch to blu-ray is if you are going to be watching it on an HDTV.

All said and done, I really like my Blu-Ray player. The picture quality is fantastic.

  2. I have a ps3 and it plays blueray discs and it looks great. no need to connect to the internet or anything. all you have to do it connect the player to ANY tv and you'll get it working. Though the picture doesnt look as great then it does on a HDTV.....it still works

  3. Yes, Blu-ray players are great.  Just go to a Best Buy and look at the picture quality of their demo tv sets.

No, your Blu-ray player does not have to be connected to the internet.  They come with ethernet jacks in them because their firmware can be upgraded over time.  This is not something that absolutely must happen.  I don't have mine connected to the internet at all.  It's not necessary.

As for Blu-ray discs only playing in the first player they're put in, well that's not correct either.  You can play a movie in any player you want (as long as it's a Blu-ray player, of course).

I got my player online using a promotion code from http://www.mybluraydeals.com, which I would suggest you consider before you walk into a store and give them your money.  Just an idea.

And yes, you can hook a Blu-ray player up to a SDTV, but there's really no point, as someone already pointed out.  If the TV isn't High-def, then you're wasting your money on a Blu-ray player.  You'll be limited by the resolution of your TV, so no matter how great the resolution coming in, it's going to be standard resolution coming out.
