Anything that has to do with fire has a potential to be dangerous. If they are controlled they can be a lot of fun to have.

Good things to cook at a bonfire are always smores. Something fun to do instead of just regular chocolate for the smores is to get different types of candy bars and let your guests try them.  You can uses reeses cups as is, but cut larger candy bars like snickers and milky way into pieces.

If you are planning to not actually cook on the bonfire some good food could be grilled chicken or hot dogs, or some burgers.

there was that college  in Texas incident where people died if that is good enough. And a bon fire is huge marshmallows would be my choice if I were dumb enough to get that close. On any other fire lots just look up outdoor cooking or camping cooking.
