It's my very first time in SF, so I could use a little help here (I'm NOT a tourist, so I'm going to stay for 6 months at the very least). How diverse is the Sunset district, really?

I would want to live in a warm & welcoming community, and it seemed that I've heard nothing but positive comments about the area. I'm done looking up apartments downtown, 'cause I've seen plenty of ignorant people around the streets, which sort of made me uncomfortable.

  1. Right, like Shroomy said. I would add, stay in the inner Richmond instead. It is diverser (new word) with access to GG Park and the Presidio and the 38 Geary bus direct to downtown. I find parts of the Sunset a little gray and bleak at times. Stick to the Richmond, East of 25th Ave.

  2. i was born and raised in the outer sunset, and i love it!!!   People say its foggy hear and grey... but i think its wonderful.  mostly families and it is pretty diverse although a lot of asian people.

i personally tend to not like the richmond district because the houses seem too close together and it always seems to be a little more dreary and bleak around the area.  Save way outter richmond like around cats eye and the beach.

  3. I would also live in the Richmond. It is full of shops. As a child I lived in the outer sunset and its kind of far away. My grandparents and my father lived off of Geary and it was always fun because it is close to everything. Lots of bus lines, and locally owned businesses.

  4. Inner and Outer Sunset are both part of the Sunset District but are different areas within it. Inner Sunset is going to be East of 19th. Outer Sunset is 19th to the ocean. Inner Sunset will be more diverse but both are predominantly Asian.
