Are boxers always so wild?

We have a while boxer who is about 1 1/2 now. She chews on everything and jumps like crazy. When I go outside to work with her, she jumps all over me. I try to calm her down, because when she jumps, it hurts! She is 75 pounds of muscle! She is getting better about the jumping thing, but the chewing everything up and now digging up everything in our yard is really becomming an issue. Didn't know if anyone had any suggestion or had ever had a white boxer behave in this way before. Thanks!

  1. You need to be very firm with her if you don't get her under control you might end up loosing her. Show her you are her leader give her the disapline she needs.

  2. Sorry, you have a crazy white boxer.

  3. Sounds like you have a dog that needs a job!  I had a dog that needed a job once.  We got her a Buster Cube--it's a dog kind of puzzle.  She also used to love those rolled up rawhides.  She would unroll them to a flat sheet--one would last about a week.  Of course this was in addition to LOTS of exercise.  We taught her her name and then my husband and I would stand far apart in a large park and call her.  She would run to me for a treat and then run to my husband.  Lots of exercise for her, not so much for us.

Just out of curiosity, is she deaf?  Lots of white boxers are.  She may not be as responsive because of that.  Of course, Boxers are pretty high energy dogs!

  4. Typical boxer. They are popular around where I live and they wiggle and run like crazy at the dog park. I've only met one calm boxer and the owners said it was very unusual.

  5. My advice, tire the c**p out of this dog. This dog needs a good 2 or 3 mile walk everyday or a 1 mile jog AT LEAST. More the better. She's being destructive and crazy because she is bored. A tired dog is too tired to be a bored dog. If she's friendly with dogs, have a play date with other boxer owners. I say other boxer owners because most boxers play too rough for the average lab or dog.

18 months is when boxers are PHYSICALY mature, BUT most boxers don't mature mentally until they are 4 or 5 years old.

Prevention is also key! Never leave this dog around the house. Think of her like a little puppy still she's just bigger and do heck of a lot more damage though. Keep her in a crate or invest in a dog run for the dog in the backyard.

Now would be the best time to take her to do some real serious obedience training! Although she might be "trained" or went to "puppy class", the fact of the matter is this isn't real training. In real training i mean the dog should be able to come to you in a busy park without hesitation, do a down 30 feet away, and stay in a down stay for more than an hour. That is training! Until she can do these things, she is not trained.

They sell some of the best dog training books/videos out there.

  6. not unless you train them that boxer can attack someone so get to training or hit her for every bad thing she does or get a silent dog whistle or a button or go to a training session or (last one) spray her with a water bottle your choice

  7. boxers are a very high energy breed and he will calm down if he is taken for long daily walks or runs if you do this he will definitely settle down

  8. 4th answer said it, this is your typical boxer.  They are famous for acting like puppies during their entire life.  Keep being consistent and try obedience class.
