Are cab drivers having a hard time with gas prices so high?

I am thinking about becoming a cab driver however I am hesitatnt because of the high gas prices. Are cab companies doing anything to make it easier on drivers?

In a TV interview a cab driver (in NYC) says that his profits are down 30% or more because of high gas prices.  He can't even raise his prices because that is set by the city.

No, they just raise the rates, what else can they do.
