  1. I was in Canada several years ago, and they were running toyota diesels in some underground mines.  At the time toyota diesels were not being imported into the US.

  2. http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_im...

    "Vehicles originally manufactured to standards other than the U.S. or Canada, are inadmissible into Canada under the current laws."

    http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/...

    "You cannot import a vehicle that was manufactured to meet the safety standards of a country other than the United States or Canada unless the vehicle is the following:

    * fifteen years or older (excludes buses);

    * a bus manufactured before January 1, 1971; or

    * entering Canada temporarily."

    There are some exceptions listed for import on "the condition that the vehicle is designed, manufactured, tested and certified to meet the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or the U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, bears a statement of compliance label affixed by the original manufacturer, has not been altered, and the certification from the original manufacturer is still on the vehicle," mainly that you were living outside of Canada when you bought the vehicle, or that you are just visiting the country with your vehicle...

    So, if the European diesel vehicle that you desire can be certified to Canadian or US safety standards, and you are willing to pay the import and duty fees, you may be able to get the car into Canada...
