  1. Sigh. I did this... stoopid rs.

I coughed my excess to the guy i hit and that covered his costs and saved my expense and ncb.

Sit down (with a mediator if you need to, the guy is a firend) and talk it out to the best of both parties.

Your employer will probably have in their documentation that all vehicles are parked at the owner's risk, in other words YOURS! this mainly covers theft but applies to accidents as well....

  2. As ascoile  says, your claim is against him, he did the damage. It's up to him whether he settles with you himself or gets his insurers to do so (perhaps at risk of losing his ncb).

If he wants to do it through the insurers, report to your insurance company and make sure you tell them you are not claiming against your own policy.  Then they'll deal with his insurance company.  Cover is valid even off highway.

  3. Yes, insurance is to cover damage you do to others property no matter where it's done.  The only difference is that some police departments won't do a report if an accident happens on private property, which sometimes complicates things.

But if he's a friend, just find out what the damage will cost to be fixed, and tell him.  He will go through his insurance if he wants.  If he turns out not to be such a good friend after all, then you could claim against his insurance.  Or, if you have collision coverage on your insurance, claim on yours and let them collect from his company.

  4. You should be covered by his insurance. Contact you insurer for a claim form and get his insurance details. You should keep your NCB as it was not your fault..

  5. You have to make a claim to YOUR insurance company.   They're usually the ones that then go after his insurance company.  Some insurance companies won't let you make direct claims to them, if you are not their customer.

The only way you wouldn't be able to claim on his insurance is if the works car park caused the accident somehow, and then... well good look proving it.

But more generally, you can in fact get paid by his insurance to fix your car.

  8. Hi, Friend  This answer blog is on the assumption that  you are from india

and the following are the general procedures in insurence claims.

    1) First you have to inform your insurer immediately about the incident through their helpline numbers. by intimating the place and time and how it happened  also you have to be  specific.

    2) the insurer may demand a FIR from police about the accident or incident.(in case any major damge or loss of life)

The insurer will conduct a survey in the spot or at the work shop where you left the vehicle.

    3) This may be relevent when some body is injured and third party claim is eligible. It all depend on how you conduct  the episode( i mean if you are going in for a compromise with the other party by making him pay for the repairs or lodge complaint with police which may lead to getting the FIR. )

    4) Normally if the insurence is claimed you may have to bear certain costs like compulsary deductibles which will vary from insurers to insurers. and some plastic items are getting 50% of the value. and towing expenses or removing expenses etc...

    5) If the incident is not having any damage to human beings then the cost of repair only will be paid directly to the dealer  company or Authorised repair shop

    6) in any case it all depend how u r taking up the issue.

    7) in any case during renuel they may not give no claim bonus which is in vogue in india.

  9. Yes. Your cover applies to both public and private land.

I just wonder why you would want to claim against his insurance. You claim against him, if he wants his insurance company to deal with it, that is up to him.

  10. I don't think it matters what country you live in, or whether or not this incident occurred on private or public property.  Why wouldn't his coverage apply?  What is the purpose of liability insurance if it does not cover a legally liable party?   Call his insurance company and file a claim.

  11. I would guess from the way your question is worded that you are not from the U.S. If so, it would depend on how your policy was worded and the laws and regulations of your nation. In the U.S., generally cars are covered even if they are on private land...

  12. To answer the question, if the public can access the car park then the insurance will be valid.
