  1. I think yes.

Try another TV series "Smeshariki." This cartoon is now around 100 series and more dynamic.

As in the cartoon on Prostokvashino it is very good.

Each of the 10 characters has a unique personality and range of interests, and there are no negative characters among them. Plots are built not on the battle of opposing forces but on the unexpected situations which the animated characters stumble upon in their interactions, which are similar to ones that children may encounter in their everyday lives.

  2. I dunno about learning Russian, you kinda have to know it to understand them better. They're awesome cartoons.

Here are some more, look them up, not sure about the spelling though.

    Leopold

    nu pogodi

    funtik

    cheburashka u krokadil gena

    karlson

  3. Heh.

I've always thought you need to be Russian to watch these. No, I don't want to say we are special, actually I think far from this. But I do believe in Russian colour and maybe in Russian soul. With a great number of social problems people have been able to leave a huge cultural heritage. While Russian famous writers of the XXth century perfectly described the epoch (you know, Solzhenitsyn died 4 days ago...), in music, books for children, cartoons and some other things it can be easily seen without being put deliberately.

Once you watch such cartoon like "Hedgehog in the Fog" or movie like "The Diamond Arm" you either love it or cannot think what people admire there. It is ok, it is not really for everyone. But those whose souls catch it get great pleasure.

That was offtopic :) The cartoons are simple and kind, from this point of view they are good. The words are pronounced very clear as far as I remember except the cat's ones (greetings to Kot Matroskin here) because he drawls the words. All in all I think it's nice to get aquainted with it.

Sorry, I wanted to write more and in better English but am too sleepy.

  4. Infact I' will say cartoons is the best mode of learning and teaching kids. It's entertaining , interesting and all instantly holds onto the heart of the kids so wat better way do u think any young kid will understand wat they are being taught? I will vote for all forms of entertaining teaching skills. TV is the one medium everyone hooks up on and kids know so much from that one source, the other mode is picture books, all interesting story books with picture depiction is the other best mode of teaching kids. I remember I had a story book with great number of pictures, and this book was given to me when i was in my 1st grade and amazingly i still remember the pictures in that book till date. I remember the dragon heads slayed and the count of the dragon heads their tongues, etc so that was the first step for me to understand what fighting was, daring was and how a true ruler is born ;-) guess i learned more from that story about being confident :D

So for me atleast any form of picture speaks volumes and kids have no bothers like the elder folks so they catch up with such things swiftly and retain them in the memory instantly, a picture makes the ultimate impact ;-)

The other source is building blocks and instruments which help kids to develop some things like building a building or building up a picture with puzzle cut outs etc. The puzzle cut outs is also an interesting source. I had the pieces of my country and i had to fix all these cut outs and make some sensible country out of it lol  and no matter wat i did the right cut out wud fit it's exact match only so in that way I used to build my country's map so many times that h**l come over double h**l i never forgot which state was located where and even when i was asleep i cud point out which state was located at which corner lol this is wat makes it interesting learning when ur a kid. I am glad i had the cut out i atleast know every states shape by heart lol don't even have to look it up on the globe and i can trace out the shape of that state just like that in minutes :D

Cartoons about Prostokvashino wud surely have been great if it had english subtitles too :) nice stuff u made my day enjoyed it dude ;-)

  5. I speak no russian.  But I think they are good (I watched some).

My ex lived in Switzerland when she was a kid.  Even though she did not speak either German or Italian, she picked it up from watching TV.  Always been jealous.  I have a tin ear for language.

  6. I watched 2 out of the 3 cartoons abt Prostokvashino today for the first time and I liked them much. Nice humor, recollections of the childhood days, pretty Russian, easy understandable to a nonnative watcher with a basic knowledge of the language. The characters (except Pechkin) are sweet. Although the 3 cartoons were made about 30 years ago, they could still attract kids (from 7 to 77 years old) with their funny stories and the warmth and humanity that flow throughout them.A good part of this, I think, will be lost in the translation. The Russian soul is hard to translate.

The languages must be studied and taught systematically, as any other subject. This cartoons could be suitable for practicing the language by listening and watching (a kind of exercises) because of the good diction, especially for kids, combining the usefulness and the pleasure.

Recommendations for teaching kids Russian: More Russian cartoons, especially "Ну, погоди!".LOL. Of course, reading Russian stories, folk and modern, too.
