Question:

Are cell phones frying our brains?

I read an article a while back that did a study of cell phone damage to brains. They set up a cell phone to be connected for a one month period next to a rat. after the study the rats brain was heavily damaged.

They also said humans are not as sensitive to it but it in fact does damage your brain. but there is a lot of opposition to releasing these studies to the pubic.

Has anyone heard anything about this??

  1. I think its dumb. Maybe its beacuse we spend more time on it doing things and we dont concentrate on anything else.

  2. I've been hearing about this since cell phones came out. It's all bogus really, considering everything else we are doing to our bodies, we shouldn't be worried about a little brain damage!

  3. they say that it is frying our brains becuse of texting but i dont think so.

  4. To begin answering this question, I will make it clear that cellular phones produce a radiation in the form of non-ionizing radiofrequency (RF) energy. This RF energy is different than the ionizing radiation like that from a medical x-ray, which can present a health risk at certain doses.  However, at high enough levels RF energy can also be harmful due to its ability to heat living tissue to the point of causing biological damage (Microwaves use RF energy to heat food.)

A mobile phone's main source of RF energy is its antenna, so the closer the antenna is to a phone user's head, the greater the person's expected exposure to RF energy.  Because RF energy from a cell phone falls off quickly as distance increases between a person and the radiation source, the safety of mobile phones with an antenna mounted away from the user--like on the outside of a car, would probably be more safe.

However, most experts say that the amount of RF energy released by cellular phones cannot possibly be enough to cause health problems, and it's probably true.  Even though many victims of brain cancer own cellular phones, many cases are reported with patients who do not own cellular phones.  However, there was a man with a brain tumor that happened to be in the exact same spot where the radiation from his phone was emitted into his skull.

In conclusion, it's most likely that cell phones do not cause serious damages to the brain, but excessive use may cause unwanted exposure to radiation, which will affect the brain, but probably not enough to turn it into brain cancer.  So as long as people don't chatter away on their phones all day cellular phones should be safe to use, no serious damages to the brain.
