Question:

Are certain mountain bikes better for beginners?

I would like to give off-road biking a try. I already have a women's Schwinn Aluminum Comp/Trail Tuned bike that I paid a little over $200.00 for (BTW, I am a woman so this would be an appropriate bike in that regard). I realize that this is on the very cheap side for mountain bikes, but I wanted to know if this bike would suffice if I am just riding on beginner/intermediate trails. I really don't want to splurge on an expensive bike until I know that I am going to continue with the sport. With that said, if this bike would be completely inappropriate for a beginner (i.e., it would be unsafe), I would like to know.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

  1. Hey,

The schwinn is a good bike - a friend of mine has one and she loves it! It should be absolutely fine on the trails. If I'm looking at the right bike, it has front suspension forks which are all you need in my opinion - I do fairly intense cycling and front forks are all I've ever needed!

To answer your question directly: "Are certain mountain bikes better for beginners?" I reckon the cheaper you can get it, the better, so like you said, don't splurge on anything expensive until you're decided :)

    Hope this helps! Jamie.
