I am currently taking calcium chewable vitamins because when I took the other kind, it was discouraging as the vitamins were big and I would get nervous about choking on them (even though I don't have a hard time swallowing stuff.

So I am womdering, am I getting the same benefits and effectiveness taking chewables as if I was taking the kind you swallow?

Thanks for all inputs :-)

  1. Yes.

  2. Yep.

  3. Supplements that are given the name chewable are not any different that standard pill form vitamins. They carry all of the same ingredients, with the addition of a flavoring that makes them easier on the palate. Many vitamins are available in chewable form nowadays. Vitamin C is available in a wide variety of dosages in orange chewable tablets, Calcium has also been made into a chewable chocolate covered piece, and even fish oils have gone the way of chewable to make them easier to take. Chewable vitamins are not just for children and the elderly, there is a wide range of choices out there for those that just don't like vitamins in pill forms.

  4. the best form is EFERVESCENT - that disolves in the wather.

it gets absorbed by the body faster and better.

but then again - whay whould you need suplements? Just eat the rigth foods and your body will take what it needs naturaly.

  5. I don't know of any difference and like the other answers here, but I do know that there is a difference between vitamins made from real organic food (no chemicals) and laboratory vitamins. Both are made in a lab I'm sure, but from different sources. Eating a multi made from whole foods has made a big difference to me.

  6. Yes, they are, with a few cautions:

First, they tend to be lower dosages than some of the higher-dose specialist multivitamins. Also, the minerals in them tend to be in the less absorbable forms. As well as this, some brands of chewables have quite a lot of colourings and other additives in them. Check the label carefully.

  7. yes they are.

  8. Probably more so.

It is well documented that vitamins absorbed under the tongue are more beneficial than those absorbed in the stomach and intestines. They are not broken down by enzymes and stomach acids like those which are swallowed.
