  1. did they feed him the bones as well?? i'm pretty sure that the bones can cause the cat tyo have splinters and its not that much money for a box of cat food. i hope he gets better.

  2. I doubt they are, however you should see

if there are any stuff out there to help his

teeth be kept clean (like something to add to

    his water, and so on)

  3. Cats love chicken but you should never feed a cat cooked bones. They might well feed on bones in the wild, but they would be raw. When you cook bones, especially poultry, they can splinter and get stuck in the cat's mouth or throat. You should have made clear to your grandparents what the cat's diet was and they should have respected that.

  4. I doubt chicken wings did that, the main danger of chicken wings would be the bone getting stuck in the cats throat, cats should never be given chicken with the bone in.  Chicken wings do seem to be an odd choice for a cat food though, but they shouldn't cause increased tooth decay.

  5. Very likely, cats are naturally immune to eating a raw meat e.g birds, chicken wings have a lot of oil and thats not a good diet for a cat.

  6. a diet of raw chicken wings wouldn't have done that to his teeth.  Infact it may have helped them.  commercial cat food is horrible for cats teeth.  It has sugars and things in it that cause plaque to build and grown.  And dosn't have enough crunch in it to scrape off the tartar.

I'd ask the vet to check the cat for Bartonella  Aka cat scratch fever.  Its a bacteria that is transmitted by fleas.  And lives in the mouth of most cats at one point or another in their lives. it has few symptoms in the cat but one is oral disease that comes on quickly and very strongly.   Its treatable with antibiotics for the cat,  the danger truely lies in that if your cat does indeed have it and scratches you or bites someone even in play they can become very very ill very quickly.

  7. No, chicken wings are not bad for cats.

HOWEVER.  It depends to some extent on how they were served.  Raw is perfect.  Baked or boiled is fine too.  But if they were fried or if any seasonings were added, it's bad.

On top of that, I'm not familiar with the phosphorus to calcium ratio and other details on chicken wings, but I suspect they are not going to offer a complete and balanced meal by themselves.

They are a good choice (like chicken necks) for dental health.  Which is why I find it hard to believe that your cat developed a major case of tartar in just a few months.  If anything, it should have helped prevent that.

I suspect the tartar was already there and you've just now found it.

If you were relying on dry food to keep his teeth clean, you've been led astray.

My advice to you is after his surgery, be sure to take proper care of his teeth.

  8. Chicken is a good meat for a cat- raw or cooked but i advise against giving them bones as chicken especially splinters and can cause cuts or get stuck and rot in the stomach. i do not think that it would harm a cats teeth though,

Maybe bad diet and nutrition would harm the gums and that may be why your cats teeth are bad?

    hope this helps

  9. ok first of all chicken wings are not cheap...they cost more than a bag of cat food...but anyways they probably wouldn't cause his teeth to go bad...the bones are irrelevant to the question so i wont comment on those...chicken wings are not supposed to be used as exclusive cat food...but a 6 year old cat shouldn't have that extensive of tooth damage...i doubt the chicken wings did that though...it was something else...maybe poor diet (which can make his teeth accumulate more tartar that normal cat...the chicken wings?)
