  1. Really the only way to find out is to ask the restaurant what kind of oil they use. It also depends on how strictly you follow the vegetarian ways. I

  2. They probably use a hydrogenated commercial vegetable oil that has a high burning temperature, like most restaurants use on their stainless steel cooking surfaces. No way for anyone on HERE to know. It's not like there's one answer fits all. Sheesh! Why don't you ask them? They certainly COULD be using lard, and they certainly MIGHT be using lard, if they run out of the commercial oil, the lard is handy, and it's cheap.

Who knows besides the restaurant cooks in "the" Chinese takeout? "The" Chinese takeout, as if there's only one in the world ... !

  3. Unless they indicate it to be completely vegetarian, Chinese restaurants usually prepare their food with beef/chicken/pork broth and oyster sauce.  My suggestion is that if you want vegetarian Chinese food, go to the Chinese restaurants listed on VegDining.com.  Here's the link:

That way, you're sure you are not unknowingly eating animal by-products.  Good luck!

  4. No. They put little pieces of puppy ears and rat toenails in it. At least, that's what my dad told me.
