Lately, i have been really bad and inconsistent with my chipping. I usually chip with a Pitching wedge, 7 iron or up but i just can't chip. I was wondering if chippers are worth buying or if anyone has any good tips for chipping?

  1. I agree with him ^.

Plus the chippers are illegal for tournament play, if that matters.

  2. It all depends on who you are but I personally beleive with the latest technology of wedges like solus you should be able to chip with more forgiveness and better results.  I have 3 solus wedges and before I had them chipping was one of my biggest struggles with my game. Now I can depend on my chipping for par saves.

  3. Yes and no if you play golf for fun and dont care about the 14 club rule then heck yess!! I love chipping with my 6 iron a chipper is even easier. While your at it throw in a 1 iron 2 iron,5 wood the sky is the limit that's why the rule is there.

The reason being better player emphasize the necessity of wedges usually 56.60/maybe a gap or 54 these help the players short game immeasurably. Go for it other wise just make sure its during a fun round they may be illegal but i did see an Odyssey white hot chipper maybe their legal now.

  4. Stay away from chippers - you don't need one.  Tips can go on for ever, but here's how I play a chip from say a couple feet off the green.  Ball back in your stance (close to right heel), use your 7 iron if that is what you usually use, hands forward (in front of the ball), then just make a pendulum type stroke (like your normal putting stroke).  Because the ball is back in your stance you will hit down on it, causing it to pop up in the air a little (just enough to get on the green) and then roll out toward the hole.  It doesn' t need to be any more complicated than that.

  5. I own a legal chipper and It's OK. I wouldn't go and buy another if I ever lost it. I use it maybe once every 2 rounds. It really is like using your putter except for that extra little lift...but that little lift gives you less control. I wouldn't get one if I were you they aren't worth the money and time you put in to mastering it.

  6. No. then you limit your other clubs in the bag.  Keep practicing your chipping really with any iron that works for you the best.  I chip and pitch with a 7 iron.

If you have to carry a specialty club, make it a hybrid wood, and get rid of the long irons.  2/3/4

Chipping is all feel and practice.  The better  you chip, the less reliance on putting.  Then you can be within 3 ft of hole everytime.
