  1. I used to charge between $30 and $40  per treatment - I'd hardly call that too expensive, especially considering the $300 bill I once got for one visit to a physical therapists office for a sprained ankle (what a freeking joke that was!!!), or the $4,000 bill a patient got from a hospital for a broken toe! I would have taken the same ex-ray for $50 and done the same thing for it!

A good Chiropractor should be able to help you with between 8 and 12 treatments!  If they recommend much more than that they probably are not very good, or more interested in getting your money.

Like any profession there are good and bad - find one from a major insurance website (even if you aren't insured) they are highly screened and won't try any nonsense because they follow standard guidelines and can't use nonsensical treatments.

Best luck, email if you want.

  2. Yes there are certain problems/situations where it is easier to pay the chiropractor than fix it your self.

Read http://www.helium.com/tm/148271 for the basic fix it your self information.

  3. it depends.  ask yourself this.  "do i like a stranger grabbing me and touching me in places that dont realy have any benifit to my health, pleaseure or well being?" if the answer is yes than go to a chiropractor.

If the answer is No than Fantasic your not g*y.  but what you should do is find a jappeneese massage parlor. They wont touch your back much, but when you leave you will have felt its money well spent

  4. The price is not  that bad. Find a reputable one, however. Does he make you feel better? If so, it is worth it. Plus, insurance covers most of them now. It even covers the therapeutic massage they prescribe. The first visit may cost more than those that follow.

  5. A chiropractor, like anybody else, charges what people are willing to pay.  Just as so-called "faith healers" can actually produce very short-term relief for people with back difficulties through the power of making people believe they can "really do it", so can a chiropractor.  But often, the chiropractor's results can resemble a faith healer's.

I'm sure you're aware of how "finally doing something" about your problem can automatically make you feel better?  Well this effect also applies to chiropractor's work.  The question is whether or not this matters to you.

The bottom line is that some back problems just aren't curable and that, unfortunately, some people will be straight after your cash and they know how to do it.  Being able to make a man's back "crack" by pushing the right areas produces the same affect the aforementioned faith healer does.  A formula of "finally doing something about it" + "surprise and the feeling of that crack" + "if I paid this much money, it must be worth it" can equal multiple RECOMMENDED returns to the doctor and a massive hole in your wallet.

  6. In my area (South Texas) Chiropractic visits are quite reasonable- no more than people pay for spa treatments.

Since I do not take medications, (not even aspirin) I consult my Chiro first for most things.  (Sinus pain, carpal tunnel, headaches)  He has always been able to eliminate the symptoms through adjustments, or advise a course of vitamins, herbs and exercise which quickly solved the problem.

All an MD would do is prescribe chemicals, then when the side effects from those got too severe, prescribe more chemicals....

  7. You have to shop around and find someone who is reasonable and a good chiropractor.  If you do you will find a DC that is honest and fair.  They will not make you come back too much either.  IN general look for an older doctor who does not have big yellow page ads.  There are very good ones.  But generally people are attracted to the larger offices that do a lot of advertising.  There are many chiros that will see you only when you want and will charge you very fairly.
