Money is tight this year and I was thinking about giving everyone homemade chocolates and cookies. Do you think this is a good idea or not? If not do you have any other suggestions?

  1. Yeah defiantly. When sent, the person who receives them notices the effort you've put into them and it's all about the thought and how it counts - it's personal and thoughtful and the concept of you not having any money spare doesn't even cross their minds.

I think it would be a great idea, I might try it someday

  2. of course.

  3. Of Course!!!, It shows that you took time out of your day to make them something that they would enjoy! Thats a great idea too!

  4. They are wonderful ideas! I would also suggest making cut out sugar cookies for families with kids, they'd really enjoy that! They have great recipes online and one great site is MarthaStewart.com. Fudge, brownies, peppermint candy, and caramel popcorn. There are really cute tin cans for cookies at the dollar shop, and they also sell them at Michaels and several arts and crafts stores along with ribbons and bows and nice plates. You can also try putting layers of ingredients in a clear jar that's decorated in the Christmas spirit, with ingredients and instructions attached with a bow. Good luck!

  5. Yes, except not for your parents or grandparents.

I forgot to add...can I be on your list?

  6. Assuming the cookies and chocolates are fresh  -- and the people you're giving them to aren't allergic to the ingredients, dieting, or diabetic -- I think your idea's great!  My mom and I make plates of homemade fudge and cookies for our local family members and friends every Christmas, too, and they love them!

If you're good at doing crafts projects, you might also want to consider making them gifts like wall hangings, table runners, Christmas ornaments, or knitted hats and scarves.

  7. It's a good and yummy gift =D

  8. Yes it is good idea. But you need some more inexpensive gift ideas then check my blog given below

  9. Yea. I would love to recieve that. Or if you crochet/knit you could make slipper. Or if you sew pillows.

  10. I think making the gifts is a good idea. Maybe you could try other things as well as cookies and chocolates?

Chocolate fudge is an easy thing to make..

To make chocolate fudge you will need...

300g of good Dark Chocolate with a high coco percentage (70% or 80% coco content) The fudge will not work with other chocolate.

    400g tin of Condensed milk.

Remember to wash your hands and clean the work surfaces before you begin.

    Method...

Break up the chocolate into a microwavable dish. Microwave the Chocolate for 1 minute and stir, repeat again. If the chocolate has still not melted microwave for an extra 20 seconds and stir. Repeat the 20 seconds until the chocolate has melted being careful not to over cook the chocolate.

Then add the tin of condensed milk to the chocolate, stir in well. You will feel the mixture thicken.

Pour into a tin foil lined tin, spread evenly and smooth the top. Allow to cool for a couple of hours.

Take the fudge out of the tin and peel off the tin foil. Cut in to small mouth sized chunks.

Your chocolate fudge is now ready to eat or put into a little box as a gift.

One batch is enough to make two gifts.

  11. absolutely -- it shows you care enough to invest your own time, attention and creativity into a gift.

  12. Absolutely! I always say that everyone can spend their money but not everyone can spend their time on a gift, and my homemaking them you're doing just that!!

I make homemade gifts most year. Before I have made bath salts, mixing rock salt with peppermint essential oil and a little red food colouring. Layer white and red salt layers in old, washed jars. Paint the lids gold and print a label on your computer saying "Candy Cane Bath salts." Tie a candy cane to the jar with a big red bow and hey presto!

This year I plan to make chutneys and pickles in used and steralised jars and attach fabric squares to the lids with string around the neck of the jar to give it a country feel. Good luck!
