  1. Although both have similar properties, and probably belong to the same family "Nightshade" they are different. Goji berries grow on an evergreen shrub, and look like "red currants" red, round, and about the same size. They originate from places like China, Himalayas, Titbet and Mongolia. All sorts of claims are made as to what it will do for your health, by the manufactures of the drink, but who knows. It is suggested that you avoid taking these berries in any form, if you suffer from any cardiovascular problems, because it is seen as an, anti-coagulant. On the otherhand choke berries, again are red, similar size to the goji, but not the same shape. Choke berries are Oval shaped and grow on shrubs which do loose their leaves. Again these belong to the "nightshade" family. You are right, "red currants" are a completely different species.
