I've been offered a '99 chrysler sebring convertible with 61k. Is this something to look into? Or should I stick with looking for a japanese which is what I have been doing - toyota, mazda, nissan, etc.

  1. not very

    an definitely not a sebring.

    especially 01 to 05's

  2. I personally like North American made cars due to trying to support my fellow North American workers.  But coming from a quality assurance/automotive background the Japanese made cars are of a higher quality standard due to strict manufacturing guidelines that are followed during the manufacturing assembly.  If you check this website below though, you can look up any car/truck to see if there are/were any type of recalls with it.

  3. Definitely not that Chrysler.

  4. Car Quality is pretty much indistiguishable between US and Japanese manufacturers within the first five years of ownership.  From five years forward, the Japanese quality stands out.

Make sure to get a CarFax report and have a mechanic check it out before you sign anything.

  5. Chrysler cars are reasonable in reliability.  Their main problem is misunderstanding in servicing their 4 speed automatic transmissions.

Most mechanics think Dexron is an universal oil for automatic transmissions.  But it is death to a Chrysler.

Never put Dexron in a Chrysler trannie.

Use only Mopar ATF-4.  You'll have no problems with the transmissions.

The benefit of buying a used Chrysler is  that they depreciate like crazy.  The same year and mileage Toyota will be much more expensive.  So used Chryslers are very good values.

  6. Generally not

  7. I would make sure that the transmission has been serviced. As far as convertibles are concerned, the Sebring is on the top of the list for construction. A car is only as good as the care given by the previous owner.
