Question:

Are classic Coke red plastic bottle caps recyclable?

The cap may be similar to those used on other beverages bottled by Coke but I only drink the classic. Please provide a source for how you know either they are or are not recyclable. A secondary and possibly more detailed answer could include why they are not, if in fact they aren't.

  1. The recycle depot doesn't accept capped bottles , so no they aren't commercially recylceable

  2. According to New York Sanitation Department, plastic cap/lid on bottles are non-recycleable. Only metal caps like on Snapple Iced Tea or Beer can be recycle.

  3. I don't have a source, but if I can find one, I'll come back and post it.

I don't think they are because they are not marked.  Generally, if it isn't marked, it shouldn't be put in with the bottles.  Also, many centers have signs up that specifically instruct you not to include bottle caps.

As far as Coke red plastic caps, I have not seen anything that would make them any different from others.  I'll keep an eye out though.

I do save Coke lids, and send the codes to my older son.  I have a big bag, but I don't know what I'll do with them if they are not recyclable.
