The brackets are colorful, but are brackets made that are clear or tooth colored?

If so, are they less noticeable?

  1. colors and metal if u want them all clear it's called ceramic.

  2. The most common brackets are metal. Brackets are what actually attach to the tooth surface, and they are guided by a wire. The colored part is actually very small elastic bands that go around the bracket to attach it to the wire.

They do make clear brackets and they are less noticeable, but they are more expensive to work with so you will pay more for your total treatment. Many patients who opt for clear brackets only get them on their upper teeth to save money, since people don't really see your bottom teeth when you speak. If you were to get them, you would wear clear elastic bands rather than the colored ones, but you will have to have them changed more often because they tend to stain. Also, even with the clear brackets, most dentists still only work with metal wires, so you will see metal anyway, even if there is less of it.

If you do end up getting metal braces and you don't want them to stand out as much, just ask for grey colored elastics to match the metal. This is what adult patients do when they opt for metal brackets.
