  2. clydesdale horses and shires are both from the english isle and they both are decendants of war horses.since they both have the same feathering on their legs it would be a good guess that they are very close in the gene pool. shires have smaller hooves than clydes.

  3. That's like asking if a lab is the equivalent of a german shepherd. ;) Clydes and Shires are both breeds of draft horses, and very similar in type.

  4. They are two entirely separate breeds, but share a lot of the same characteristics: large size, feathered heels, gentle temperament.  And of course, both breeds are native to Great Britain (Shire horses being from England and Clydesdales from Scotland)

    They are probably both descended from the medieval "Great Horse" - the large powerful horses that were needed to carry a knight in all his armour.
