Are completed Lego's supposed to be on shelves, or playing toys (opinions)??

My brothers and I often build big Lego's.

I like keeping them on shelves.

They like playing with them.

What do you think Lego's are meant for?

You can use your opinions.

  1. We display on a shelf for a few months, and then take it apart to make new creations.  We always keep the book though so we can make it again if we want.

  2. I think they are for learning spatial relationships and having fun, if you like to keep your finished piece to marvel at, great, if you want to build something else – good for you. No wrong answer.

  3. You build them, enjoy the result and tear them down to do it again and again. Different days, different build.

Your brothers have the right idea. If you put all you make on a shelf you will soon be out of Lego's.

  4. My memory of lego is a big sack full of lego (in britain we say lego not lego's) that my Mum used to tip out onto a blanket.  Me and my brother used to rake through it looking for the peices we wanted and make whatever we wanted.  I cannot remember what they all were origionally.  My brother is older, maybe he remembers.  Whatever we made was just put back into the sack and we would either carry on with it next time or make something else.

My son (age 10) has lego.  They all came as kits.  I helped him make them when he was younger and he can do them himself now.  He usually keeps the model as it is suposed to be for a few days and plays with it and then over a few weeks it gets alterd bit by bit as he uses his creative imagination.  After a while all the kits have joined together to make one big lego set with lots of cool and interesting peices from, pirate kits, space kits, foot ball sets, military vehicles, digger kits and so on.  He has a big set of drawers he keeps his lego in and has drawers for tiny peices, wheels, bionical, technik, basic blocks, feature peices, bases, bulky bits, people.....

With this he makes models far better than those you can buy because they capture his imagination (usually space craft, often inspired by films and cartoons on the tv).  He likes to take pictures of them to show people and then he plays with them.  Sometimes they even get blown up and therefore he can make them look like spae wrecks and the other space guys come and salvage bricks and parts from the wreckage to improve their space craft!  what other toy could be so versitile that you can make them do anything.

You enjoy your lego however you want, that is the beauty of it!

  5. I tend to build them and then put them on a shelf, but they are intended for play.

Notice the alternate builds on the back?

The ideal is to buy two of every set and build one and then play/reconstruct with the other.  I like building and modifying them with my kids.

  6. Toys are for playing with, I get annoyed when people sell their old toys for a ton of money on eBay, give them to a kid!  That's what they're for dang it!
