I just removed everything from inside an IBM. I wish to change my Celeron 8 processor and my 56K memory cards for the Intel III and the 64K memory cards I unsnapped from the IBM.. Can I leave my 56k memory cards in with the others (64K's) and add the second hard drive to my computer also? What happens to all my programs if i do this? does everything stay the same, only faster with the Intel III, and with more space (if I do add the hard drive so mine has 2) .I'M A NEWBIE-keep it simple, please!

  1. I've only been doing this for a VERY long time and the best answer to share with a NEWBIE is you should request a professional to work with you, if you're trying to do this by yourself for the first time. (You may want to appeal to a local PC shop asking their Pro to work with you showing and explaining what you need to know to do an upgrade.)

But, to help you get started, IBM does a number of things to assist their users, including telephone support. Go to there website and get the manual(s) for your machine and you will get a SAFE explanation of what changes WILL WORK on your particular PC. IBM, HP, DELL, GATEWAY, etc, all, store manuals on their PCs that if you follow them, will work....no matter what.

Lastly, it sounds like your PC uses a Intel P3 (you refer as "III") and Intel made several different configurations which MUST match your motherboard.....lest, it won't work! Beware when you're purchasing from a Internet vendor because many will not give you your money back if you purchase one that won't work.
