  1. yes they allways leak and are hard to heat in the winter and they dry up and rip and crack the back windows tarnish turn yellow they are cool but not a good every day car

  2. Convertibles are a good car as long as they are treated well. Leaks can occur from worn or missing seals in older cars but for the most part new cars don't have that many problems. The one thing you have to really look at is a saftey issue. Convertibles don't offer the roll cage on a lot of the models you see. Head bars are sometimes avaliable on more high performance models and a lot of 2 seat only cars. The lack of  a roll cage in a roll over crash is not a good thing.

  3. they're not really economical, but they're sure of a hella of a lot of fun to drive (:

Alot of sunroofs tend to leak after a while, and many dealers tell me that after the top is down, the aerodynamics of the car makes the car harder to move, thus using more gas.

Also, insurance for those things is a pain in th butt!

  4. Properly adjusted and with clean seals mine leak no worse then the two door hard tops that I have owned.

Not all convertibles are economical to operate.

The Miata is one of the more economical to operate, and the new model can be bought with a retractable hard top (if you want the advantage of a more water tight interior.

I speak from experience having owned a Falcon convertible (1963) and a Miata(s).

  5. not practical but they are fun.

if you live where it rains a lot, you'll not enjoy driving with the top

up, most have very limited rear vision.

they all leak sooner or later.

it's best to not park them outdoors unless you have a car cover.

  6. There's a lot of types of convertable cars out there, some better than others.

And for the record, many, such as the miata, now offer a retractable hard top, which I have never heard of leaking, and makes the car more difficult to break in to, and makes it look better too!!!!!

  7. No they are no good, not economical, plus they mess your hair up!

  8. On most convertibles the top is the down fall. If it get some age on it and needs replacing get your pocket book out. Keep in mind on most all you need is a knife or something sharp to cut the top and your car is broken in to. I guess this is one of the reasons it cost more to insure a convertible. They are a lot of fun but for everyday driving I would not recommend them.
