Question:

Are cows, pigs & cattle still being fed other animals?

I have read a few books which stated that farm animals in the USA are fed other dead animals and that's made into feed. It is still going on today? I eat mostly organic foods, but I was wondering about "mainstream" meats. TY for your input.

  1. dead animal? surely you do not expect farm animals to eat live animals? anyway, most farm animals consist of cows, sheeps or lambs, ducks, chicken, horses and others except pig do not ingest meat because they are mostly herbivores and rely on grains and grass. pig however are omnivores, so it consumes both meat and plants.... i hope that helps a little...

  2. eeewwwwwww......i did not know this....it makes meat even more digusting to me

  3. Yes this still goes on.Though it's mostly with chickens.The male chicks are considered useless as they can't lay eggs so they are often ground up whilst still alive and fed to the other chickens.They also feed the animals lots of antibiotics and growth promoting hormones to make them grow bigger,faster on less feed.Also,unless organic,the animals{especially birds}are kept in huge windowless sheds and get infections and blisters as they spend their whole lives in their own excrement.

  4. GREAT QUESTION!  They don't only get fed other animals...

    They are fed:

        * Same Species Meat

        * Diseased Animals

        * Feathers, Hair, Skin, Hooves, and Blood

        * Manure and Other Animal Waste

        * Plastics

        * Drugs and Chemicals

        * Unhealthy Amounts of Grains

    Are these ingredients legal? Unfortunately, yes. Nevertheless, some raise human health concerns. Others just indicate the low standards for animal feeds. But all are symptoms of a system that has lost sight of the appropriate way to raise food animals.

    For more information, you can visit the original website I found this information at...or you could google "US livestock feeding".

  5. Yep, that mainstream meat is as bad as ever. Isn't it awful?

    As for your second question, nothing good.

  6. It's illegal to feed cow to cows, but it still goes on (calves who were born after the feed ban have been identified with BSE.)  When animals are slaughtered and the meat that humans are going to eat has been removed, the rest of the carcass is sent to a rendering plant where it's processed into solids and liquids; all that disgusting c**p is used to make consumer goods, livestock feed and even pet foods.  Yes, dead pets and roadkill also go to the rendering plant.  One theory of why kidney disease is on the rise in housecats is that they are eating food that still contains the drugs used to euthanize pets.  Oh, and it's not illegal to feed chicken s**t to cows, just disgusting and very common.
