I asked this in the green living section and they never posted it... I guess it's offensive to someone...

  1. I crush my cans, (you can fit 40 in a regular shopping bag that way).  I've never had a problem with the deposit, but I crush them so you can see the side of the can.  They've never said anything to me about it at the Beer Store.

  2. I see two different types of redemption centers.  One is the automated machines that shred the cans and give you 5 cents per can.  The other is just a place you drop off a bag of cans and tell them how many there are, or they count them; but they give 4 cents per can.  Both ways end up getting recycled.  I don't think that using those machines is worth the 1c for my time... it takes about 5 minutes to make $1.  I would rather take the 80 cents and be done in 30 seconds.

  3. Certainly! Crushing them makes it easier to bag and transport.

  4. Most recycling centers prefer that you turn in crushed cans.  They take up less space and are easier to transport.

  5. If they are deposit cans, you don't crush them. Otherwise - crush away.

  6. The more you can fit in a bag the fewer bags you'll be using which is also green.  Smash away they will still take them.

  7. of course

  8. Yes all they do is melt them down anyway. The shape doesn't matter. You can recycle any shape of aluminum
