Question:

Are custom fitted golf clubs worth it for me?

I'm a high handicapper (16) looking for a new set of clubs. I am retiring to Myrtle Beach and plan to continue to play. Would having a custom measured set of clubs be worth it for me? I'm a big guy but I hit a driver only about 210 yards, and a 5 iron about 150.

Thanks

  1. make sure you get your putter custom fitted for your stroke...... your putter is a big part of how you play each day

  2. First and foremost, if you are 16 handicap you are a very good player especially due to your lack of distance across the board of all your clubs.  I believe in all cases fitted clubs benefits everyone.  If you want to drop your handicap then get your clubs fitted.  If and when you get your clubs fitted, your distance on all your clubs will actually go up.  And it can be an even more drastic improvement if you find out your shafts are too hard (or soft).  So I do recommend fitting your clubs, especially since it seems like you are going to be playing more in your retirement.  Totally worth it in my opinion.

  3. You describe yourself as a 'big guy'.  How big.  If you're over 6'1 or 6'2 you might benefit from custom fitted clubs.  A slightly longer shaft could improve your game.  A 16 hcp is a pretty respectable number for anybody.
