  1. Gold is cheaper but diamonds are the same.

  2. I your man here!

I bought my Costa Rican wife's 1/2carat ring in the capital San Jose.  I decided that I wanted a Costa Rican diamond engagement ring for my girl but we had our wedding rings made in the UK for our wedding.

Diamonds in CostaRica are not particularly cheap (and possibly even a little more expensive) and certainly not near the same quality as available back home.

Carat sizes are the same but the clarity and quality are poor compared to the UK and USA markets.

London seems to have top quality diamonds as they have long established relationships with the diamond traders of Africa.

Go for USA every time if that's where you are!!

As for gold, it's a good investment to trade in on the International gold markets  but has been as high as $800 per ounce if I recall - but investing in Natural Resources Funds are another option.

  3. Technically gold and diamonds both trade on international exchange.  Gold bullion is the same in New York, London, Hong Kong etc.  The real question is "is the seller jacking up the price"   If you buy in a mall, you will get your eyes ripped out as there is a price tag on it.  Gold should only be bought by weight from a reputable jeweller or dealer.  You can get jacked anywhere.

Think logically, why would someone sell you gold in Costa Rica for 800 per ounce, when they can sell it into the international market for 920.

Of course what we are not factoring in is craftsmanship for the object you are buying.

  4. The BEER !!!

  5. I think diamonds are the same everywhere.

    Gold, too.  Or pretty close.

Cheaper?  Possibly good coffee.  Textiles, and wood products.  Local handcrafts.

  6. I think you can get gold and diamonds cheaper in Costa Rica than in the US.  You just have to know where to go.  You can get things even cheaper if you pay cash, but be careful who you are dealing with.  Also, if you go around the gold mining regions, you can get good deals on gold.

  7. The same.

Silver is cheaper over there though...

  8. yes. Depends on what you buy. USD is worth much more than a costa rican colón. So you might find it for cheaper in San Jose. Maybe one of the malls.
