Are different brain waves present simultaneously?

I mean during a wakeful state are there brain waves of all types-beta,alpha,theta,delta? At least in lesser amounts?

  4. What you are asking about is part of the study of Electroencephalography. All brain wave types are present at all times. However, some are more profound depending on the type of activity the person is performing. Delta waves for example are most intense during deep sleep. Beta waves are the most tense during higher level thinking and concentration. Gamma waves are raised during certain cognitive or motor functions. The brain manages the body consistantly on multiple levels. Thus, all waves are generally detectable at any specific time.

  5. My husband has had several EEGs done at his Neurologist's office and there have always been at least 2 graph lines on the paper coming out of the machine.
