Are dividends of all companies paid out at the same time?

Are they all on the same annual schedule , since they are all paying dividends quarterly right ? (Speaking of very stock in existence)

  1. No. Companies are free to set their own dates for dividend distribution.


  2. Stocks may not pay any dividend.  Sometimes they pay a special dividend.  If they pay a regular dividend it could be annually, semi-annually, quarterly, or monthly.  And each company decides its own date(s) that they announce or pay them.  And amount of dividends can change (up or down) or can be discontinued if a company falls on hard times.

    The company decided if and when they will pay dividends and their are not laws that require them to pay dividends

    Most of the larger companies do pay dividends quarterly, but not all companies' accounting systems are on a calendar quarter, so if invested properly one could recieve a dividend from their investments every month.

    There are companies that only pay dividend when their board decides to pay, it could be quartlerly, semi annually or once a year.  

    Sone companies pay "special" or "extra" dividends that fit into no set schedule.
