I want to visit China, specifically Shanghai & Suzhou, but I know if I were to see dogs & cats being used for food I would totally freak out & probably be mentally traumatized. Do they eat them in every region of China?

  1. Yes they do but its not as wide spread or popular as you think.

You are not likely to find cat or dog meat in the local supermarket but likely in areas that are poor or rural.

With that in mind, don't goto Kentucky, a regional dish there is squirrel brains.

  2. no,chinese people do eat dogs somewhere,but in most region,they don't,as cat,they never eat animal like that,can u imagine?

china is famous partly for its great  food tradition,so they never have to kill such creatures and eat with no mercy, after all, chinese people ain't savages

  4. Some people do eat dogs in China but that's actually pretty rare in today's culture. Most of people in China have cats and dogs as pets nowadays.

I'd say you should just have fun in China without these nasty thoughts in your mind. Don't look for it when you're there neither. Shanghai is a great place! Definitely go there. Maybe check out ShenZhen.

  5. Only a few restaurants have dog meat in some regions.

As to eating cat meat, it's certainly a lie.

  6. NO! You will never see dogs meat on the market. You will only see dogs meat been eaten in rural areas but there might be an exception for example Beijing where 1 restaurant still have dog meat.

Cat meat is a hoax by the Western media and it is certainly not true.

  7. Yes they do eat dogs and cats in China. I lived there for 2 years and i only saw those specific markets once. The markets are in the poorer parts of the cities only. You would have to seriously search for the markets to find them. So don't worry.

  8. I've lived in Shanghai for 2 years and I walk around a lot, but I've never seen it.  I'm sure if I tried REALLY REALLY REALLY hard, I would be able to find one in the boonies somewhere, but...That's like asking, If I go to the US will I see incest?  Unless you're out in the boonies, probably not.
