Question:

Are down pillows supposed to have an odor to them?

I bought two down pillows recently. I believe they were $30 a piece. They smell like something I have not smelled before - maybe like something burned? I have tried Febreze, and even puting them in the dryer with a damp dryer sheet and nothing has worked. The odor wakes me up at night. My husband doesn't seem to notice it, but I definately can and I know it is the pillows and nothing else. Any ideas? I am about to toss these pillows out the window!

  1. wow,i never heard of that!!!what about trying to let them air for a bit in the sun??i find that works wonders on smelly blankets without washing them!good luck!

  2. The feathers were not properly cleaned before sewing. Just wash and dry them.  By the way, they are probably not good quality if you only spent $30.

  3. ~~I've only used down pillows my entire life. I have never had one smell. ever. I would return them. If you want the best price and the best quality, buy them at Costco.~~

  4. I have never encountered any that smell. Did they smell like this when you purchased them? Try drycleaning them. If not, just get rid of them.

  5. No, down pillows should not have an odor, return them to the store.

  6. Get them out in the sunshine, air them out.
