Whenever I'm feeling scared, defeated or haunted, I get nightmares that are truly frightening, disturbing and I wake up shaking and trembling.

Whenever I for whatever reason decided to tackle life's problems and "fight back"

I start getting dreams where even if they might be bad and scary, I and usually a few others (like my parents) go in the dreams to help me and we end up "fighting" the evil, and winning.

  1. simple answer, yes

longer answer: dreams are your brain's way of making sense of all the information it gets during waking time. This is why we need to sleep, and why when we go a long time without sleep we go a little nutso.

I've heard theories that say that dreams are your brain's way of acting out situations you may need to face in real life, to prepare you for them. However, because youre dealing with all the information stored in your brain from however long you've been alive, your brain prepares these scenarios in code.

for example, if during waking hours you are stressed out and worried or anxious about something, these will be reflected as 'nightmares', which, when analyzed correctly, usually provide you with the solution to whatever issue you face. if you deal with these issues with the company of your family in the dream, than your answer in real life is that you need outside support in order to resolve your issue. whether or not your 'family' is literally representing your relatives, or perhaps close friends you consider more like family to you is up to your personal experiences.

  2. Yes.

I read Sigmund Frued last semester and his theory was basically that dreams are wishes.

There are a few types of dreams; but his over all idea was that they are just secret wishes in disguise.

    For example..

You had a nightmare. A crazy man with a chain saw broke into your house.. but lets say you lived with your girlfriend in the dream. The man scared you to death and you woke up in a panic.

The overall wish is that you wish to live with your girlfriend.

    or....

While you're sleeping; you get cold. So in your dream you wake up and turn off the air in your room.

You turned it off because you wished it was warmer.

You live out your wishes in your dreams; its pretty awesome =)

  3. Scientists have discovered that dreams are our subconsions's way of dealing with out emotions/stress. So yes, dreams are entirely dictated by how you feel.
