im askin this because when i hit my driver, i feel like im giving my best but the outcome doesnt come out that good. I dont get the feel of hitting a good shot but really a bad one. Are drivers supposed to feel like as if your hitting a hybrid(the solid feel)? or hitting the ball with a hollow metal?

  1. Drivers today are mostly hollow inside, the reason for this is because they want to reduce the weight from the club heads, the lighter the club, the more club head speed you can generate through the ball, and the further the ball will travel. Thanks to the latest technology available today that we can use drivers with weights as little as 199g or below, which compares to the callaway Big Bertha which came out ages ago, which weigh about 250g - 300g per head, we can hit the ball much further!

but some of the driver generate a horrible hollow sound like the new cleveland hi bore and cobra LD, its because its unique shape, it creates a different echo in the club, but dont worry, as long as the ball is straight, you are ok.

the ball going not where you want to it could be the shafts, because depends on your club head speed coming through the club, you might use a stiff shaft, or regular shaft, you might have to get some one from your local shop to look at it. getting the right shaft is 90% of the problem solved, the other 10% is still not the club head you choose, its the swing... :)

  2. If you're not getting good results with your driver, it's probably because your club is not properly fit to your swing, you're not swinging the club as well as you think you are, or a combination of both. If you did not get the club fitted, it's almost certainly not as well fitted as it should be, but you could have a not so great swing as well.

  3. Modern drivers are mostly hollow and very light.  They also have a spring effect in the sweet spot.  When you hit one right there you should be able to feel the ball compress against the club face and then spring off of it.  The trouble with a lot of equipment (especially cast irons) is that you don't get the feedback you should and thus it is hard to tell if you are hitting it solidly or not.

  4. The newer drivers are made from a titanium alloy - which is a very light but strong metal. The also come with graphite shafts - as opposed to steel shafts - which are also lighter. And they are hollow. If you think you are hitting it correctly, but the result is not what you expect, then one thing to check is to make sure that the head of the driver is not loose, failing that put some talcum powder on the face to see where abouts you are hitting it with the ball.
