Are dvd players system locked?

Like can I play a japenese dvd on a American machine. Probalby not but just checking. Thanks!!

    find your dvd player and you may be able to find a few tweaks for it.


  2. Yes, DVD players are still region locked, but I believe there are some DVD players that are not region locked.

  3. some DVD players are locked, yes that is correct.  But, you have more of a problem than locking.  Your DVD player and your TV both have to be able to play a PAL format.  Here in the US, we have the NTSC format, which is different enough not to sync up to PAL.  Although the HDEF format is more standard, Japan is developing their own HDEF format which is different than ours, too.  So, there is a lot more going on here than just what DVD player you use.
