Are eBooks harmful for our eyes?

Isn't it harmful for us to be reading eBooks on our computer screens? Will this damage our eyes? Because almost all textbooks I've been studying are in eBook (pdf) format and I've been studying them from my laptop screen usually for about 2 hours. Is this safe?

  1. No they will not harm your eyes.  I have been reading E-books for years on a laptop and I have even done it on a pda too.  I suggest taking vision breaks at least every 45 minutes to an hour and look at distance object then return your focus to a close object and repeat that a process a few times.

Any computer work can cause eyestrain no matter what you are reading, but eyestrain the worst that can happen and you can do things to help avoid it.

  2. No more so than general computer use would.  You might experience fatigue from overuse and may require spectacles to help reduce the workload if you must use the computer all day long.  Other than that, no it won't damage them.
