  1. With a handle like mine, what would you expect the answer to be? A good ecology class will get you outside to get wet and to play in the mud. You'll learn all sorts of useful things, such as how to evaluate a stream by flipping over rocks. Of course it's fun!

Will it help you to become a quack? No, not directly.

  2. Ecology is the study of how animals interact with their environment and with each other. It's very conceptual, since studies in the wild are hard to do. There is a lot of math and statistics involved. You must apply logic and abstract thought. All in all, it was one of my favorite courses. You won't really go into physiology or biology, except where it pertains to animal interactions (like how chemical signaling between predator/prey affects prey behavior, and the mechanisms for detection).

Most college require you to take ecology "animal systems," is what they call it at my university. This class will help you in many ways. First, the MCAT, known as the medical school admission test, contains biological content about animals. Its pretty fun except if you really get into it you'll turn atheist. Go in loving it and you'll do fine.

...expect to learn about animal evolution and the physiology and structures of these animals and what allowed them to adapt to the enviornment and how complexity played such a big role and eventually humans arrived...
