Question:

Are electronic poker chances worse?

I will be going on a cruise next week and I just seen pictures of the poker set up its all automated. I wondered in general because I haven't played much online poker but do you have worse chances when the comptuer in involved? On the cruise it has 10 seats around a table each with their own individual screen that has privacy tent so no one can see yours. In the middle of the table the cards are dealt out electronically. It just seems like the odds may be worse than having a live dealer. But I can not think of a reason to back up my claim. Any opinions? Anyone have any luck playing Hold'em on a cruise?

  1. It seems to me like if I play for practice (no money) then I usually win.  At least I win more than I lose.  If I play for real then I usually lose.  I lose a lot more than I win.  At least that has been my experience.  Strange, huh?

  2. it depends on their shuffling algorithm.  The big online poker sites all make their algorithms public.  The idea is not to just call a random card in the deck but to order the deck in a way that simulates it being shuffled in real life.

  3. There is no reason whatsoever to suspect you will be getting better or worse odds.

First off, the cruise line doesn't care if you win or lose.  Secondly, these machines are just as capable of shuffling as a Shufflemaster, a live dealer or any other method you can think of.

So I wouldn't worry about it.  The only issue I can think of is that because it is computerized, you will probably see more hands per hour than a live dealer.  This in turn will mean if you have a hole in your game, you are likely to lose quicker.
