  1. i am a nurse and we are at the hospital now, starting to feel some effects of the storm. we are expecting to flood so we have things in place if it does...we will move up and then when the hurricane is over we will be airlifted out to random places!

  2. I am in 9-1-1 operations in Fla for my Sheriff

usually - we are still there, we are not allowed to roll on a call

when the winds are above 45 mph (and the sheriff or the undersheriff makes that call) so that would also go for the EMS and Fire, too

Which means that if they can't move - we don't go home - and we bring

our sleeping bags/pillows/meds and teddy bears because we aren't going anywhere from the Communications Center - and yes - we are stocked with food and the diesel generator runs one day every week to make sure it has capacity

    great question!

all the best for those folks

  3. My husband's uncle stays for every storm.  He is in the Navy & NOPD reserves.  Many members from our area National Guard have also been called down to assist during and immediatelyy following the storm.

Good luck to all those men & women in service & thanks.

  4. Yes police and emergency response teams such as EMS, Firefighters, etc. are required to stay. They are required to stay to maintain order within the city. The mayor is usually required to stay as well. In fact, police and other emergency response personnel were drafted from other parishes to help with New Orleans. They usually stay in well protected areas though and they're just on hand in case of big emergencies and aftermath rescue efforts. =] x
