Are employers scheduling part time to avoid healthcare costs?

I have a sub par job..not great but not terrible. I get paid a substantial amount more than minimum wage and maybe about 10-15 years ago ppl would say that it was a good job. My employer though never gives out overtime and rarely gives somebody over 25 hours a week. I'm only assuming they do this to avoid paying out more for healthcare..as in my workplace you're only eligible if you work there full time. Would I be right?

and if this is the case...who gets good healthcare from their employer anymore? My mom is a postal worker (federal government) and her healthcare used to be pretty stellar..now it's terrible...really terrible.

Big business may give you good healthcare for a while..but then a lot of places lay you off before you can collect pension or rack up any LARGE bills for chronic conditions or diseases..

so who has it good? and how do i get in on this..

by the way I'm a chef.

  1. You bet employers do this. WalMart is infamous for it--almost nobody working its sales floor or cleaning it after hours works enough hours to qualify for any health benefits.

Corporations are well known for looking after their bottom line rather than their employees.
