  1. Some are. Many zoos attempt to breed endangered species to keep some remnant of their gene pool alive. It's sad, however. Species like the Siberian tiger can not be effectively reintroduced into the wild. Once they've been wiped out of their natural habitat, zoos will be the only place these great cats will exist.
