Are english and history degrees similar?

They seem like they go hand in hand. I have had a couple teacher s with english degree teach world history very well.

It depends what you mean by similar.  At my university, they were both part of the Humanities Faculty.  However, they require very different courses.

Literature is just a reflection of the time in which it was written, and authors are influenced by what is going on around them in the world.  Therefore, there's a strong correlation between the two academic fields.  The better English teachers will position the reading material in a historical context so students can understand the time period that produced the text.
