cause cars pollute the earth. fair enough. but now flat screens pollute the earth? wtf? soon they gonna want us to just stop using technology. soon we're gonna get in trouble for wearing a watch.

Well, not just you.  How about 1,000,000,000 people discarding 1,000,000,000 tiny little batteries.  And cell phone batteries and flashlight batteries and cordless tool batteries- etc. ect. etc.

Well, all the flat screens have to come from somewhere. They are manufactured, after all.  You're probably hearing a lot about it because the U.S. is about to convert to all-digital tv broadcasts by 02/09.  Projections are that a ton of LCD HD tvs are going to be manufactured to fill a higher than normal demand. Nitrogen trifluoride is a green-house gas used in chemical vapor deposition, which makes liquid crystal tvs, monitors, and displays, semiconductors, and synthetic diamond.

It's not about avoiding technology. It's about being balanced. There are many easy choices we can make to help offset the harm done (both to our wallets and our environment) by our excessive consumption.

Recycling is one.

There are a lot of promising new business models evolving in Europe involving the re-capture of the byproducts of manufacturing for resale elsewhere, preventing them from being released into the environment and developing a new industry (and new jobs) as well.

As technology advances so does our understanding of technology so of course new stuff is going to come out. If a plasma is bad, deal with it, dont get a plasma. It's like saying the doctors all said thalydamide was bad what next! well thalydamide deforms babies and plasma's stuff the ozone - what's the problem? You think its all a sham? If so get a science degree and find out yourself
