Are facial cleansers too harsh for 13-year-olds?

I've been using a Clean and Clear foaming facial cleanser for about two days now, but my dad says that the chemicals inside the cleanser would damage my face. Is this true? or should I just keep using the cleanser?

  1. I don't see how it would damage your face! Ignore pops on this one.

  2. Products made by Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, etc. are made for kids and young adults going through adolescence.  There are studies on chemicals that are used in different beauty or cosmetic products, but almost any study can relate something we use or ingest to causing cancer.  The product isn't going to damage your face.

  3. dab lemon juice over your entire face and go to sleep..when you wake rinse with warm water...if neeeded apply before you leave the house and put sunscreen on over after it dries

  4. Your dad is correct.  Trust his advice.

Unless you have acne, go with a mild facial cleanser that doesn't contain soap or abrasives which can be harsh.

I've found Cetaphil to be a good soapless cleanser and it won't irritate your skin.  It has no added fragrance and you can either tissue it off or use a face cloth to wash it off.  AND, you can use it on your body as well.  It also comes in a variety of formulas depending on your skin's condition (dry, normal, oily, acne prone, etc.)

You can check out their website for more information before making your decision.

I'm not sure of where you live but Sephora is a fun place to go to try a variety of cleansers and face products, or the beauty counter in your local department store- although sometimes those places can be a very "high-sell" environment.  Sephora will not pressure you into buying what you don't want.

    Good luck!

  5. I don't think being 13 is going to affect how the cleanser affects your face. Some people just naturally have more sensitive skin. If you think your skin is more sensitive, there are gentle face cleansers out there that you can buy. If you don't see any problems (ie. redness, dryness) with your current cleanser than I would continue using it.
