Are fairy's real and if not what are they based on?

Question

If fairies are not real what are they based on? Usually is some unexplain event. Maybe flying disc in the sky? I remember reading a medieval story where a girl talk about a magical fairy that took her up to its castle in the sky. To me it sounds like something a ufo abductee would say today. Don't you think?

its meant to be based on a true story, they even claimed to get a photo of them! i don't know if it was real or not but very interesting:)

Faerys go back to Pagan and Celtic times. In Qabalah, Adam Kadmon is known as the Star Man, and as Dion Fortune once said “The Gods exist – We Are!”.  

If the Angelic hierarchies are the celestial guardians of the universe, then it follows that the Faery folk may well be the Angelic guardians of the living Planetary Being, that is often now called Gaia. The Faery Elemental Races are the spiritual energies and magical consciousness that exists behind every living thing in existence upon the planet. Their race types span all the 4 Elements of Fire (the Salamanders), Water (the Undines and Mer people), Air (the Sylphs) and Earth (the Gnomes). They are the Spiritual Races of Nature.

As Rachel has pointed out, the fae are regarded as elementals and my opinion is that they are very real. In fact, an entire branch of magick, known as "Faeriecraft", is designed to work directly with these incredible entities.

There are also specific meditations that one can use to actually meet them in their own realm. As the legend goes, don't eat or drink anything while there, even if just in spirit, or you may become trapped there forever.

The story you mentioned in your question does sound like a UFO encounter or abduction...you're right about that.
