Mermaids are just myth.

It was just a blurred hallucinated image of women seen by drunk pirates on a ship when they were seeing manatees. After being all alone out on sea by themselves without any women folk around to keep them company as potential mates they got drunk, saw manatees being drunk while having fantasies of women hallicinated the manatees being half women and half fish.

Faires ( Faeries ) are real however they are very discreet, live solitude, private lives, want and expect human beings to respect their rights.

Don't ever capture a fairy and keep it prisoner for your own selfish needs, wants and desires because you will get bad luck. The fairy also dies from suffocation and the entire fairy population will come after you.

If the captured fairy does escape you will experience the wrath of the fairy.

Fairys come in varied sizes, they can be as small as 6 inches tall and very tall such as 7 feet tall.
