designer shirts and jeans when going about not so dirty jobs on the yard. My eyes nearly popped today when i saw this guy, hair gelled, labelled shirt and smelling sweetly, driving a John Deer. Is this new image on the yard taking off?

  1. haha would be funny if it is.

  2. Most farmers are into politics these days. They wear their old designer clothes when going in the fields. Farmers also have a new product on the market. It is a bottle of self tanning spray. It's called "Farmers Tan". You ought to try some!  :-)

  3. Must be the city farmer out mowing his lawn.

Sure he wasn't the John Deere delivery salesman?

My farmer wears his bibs out riding his fancy Harley Davidson.

Only time he's dolled up is when he is in a show tractor parade.

  4. Not that I know.....my father in law, brother in law & pretty much all of my husbands family are farmers in Nebraska and I have never seen any of them dress like this. Many are young guys in their 20's too. Makes me think maybe they're not working hard enough :)

I would be shocked to see them dressed like that.

  5. What, you've never heard of the "gentleman farmer"?

  6. Farmers don't dress and behave in the old hollywood stereotype.  They wear work clothes when they work, casual clothes when they are not working.  The same clothes that most people wear, on or off the job.  They comb their hair and shave, take baths and showers. Sometimes they dress up in suits and ties for special occasions.  New farm machinery have enclosed cabs with air conditioning, radios, stereos, maybe even computers.  There is no need to dress in manure covered overalls, smell like a barn, and speak with a phony hollywood accent. ("Yeh, yeh, yeh, I reckon we could use a good rain.")

  7. lol  Maybe he was going somewhere and had to take care of his Deere before he left?  Like other people saying "gotta get the car off the street first".  Or he was trying to impress somebody he knows always drives by that time of day?

I don't know anybody who wears nice clothes to farm - crops or animals.  They all wear older clothes they don't care about getting messy and sweaty in.  Sometimes they wear overalls (Grandpa calls them coveralls).  But it's mostly jeans (Grandpa calls them overalls) and a regular T-shirt or maybe an old buttondown flannel.

  8. Sounds like an Urban cowboy and not a farmer.

  9. Haha, Well for now I will assume that he had an appointment somewhere then went straight to the fields, but who knows?

  10. lol, I live in Iowa and obviously see many farmers...Many farmers don't fit the stereotypes that most people believe in...For instance bib overalls, flannel shirt, etc.  Most of them believe it or not dress normally.

  11. No.  I think that farmers still dress like farmers. Or at least the ones who live near me do.

Perhaps what you observed is just an ordinary guy whose kids have finally left home and he can finally afford designer jeans, labeled shirts and that John Deer he's always wanted to play around with.

  12. That wasn't the farmer, that was the farmers valet.

  13. i am just glad the farmer is dressed, i am so dismayed at floopy tires on young women (belly rolls) and nice butt shots on young men - eeww i cannot look away fast enough.  i know quite a few older people who must be dressed to the nines before they venture outside.  i am not one of them sorry to say

  14. Maybe he was taking care of one Deere before taking care of the other Dear !  At least he was dressed nice . . . I hate the youngsters who wear pants half down there bottoms, underwear showing, and showing a sideways smile at me . . . .I always think "There goes a future plumber !"

  15. I agree with ablex.

  16. When I ride my John Deere I wear my oldest jeans and an old shirt. When I go to town I wear newer jeans and shirt.

  17. Not on our farm it's not. old jeans sweater, and boots is what I wear.

  18. yes and we country folk also go on hols and go out for meals and do things that you townie people do,, supprising innit.

  19. Dude.  What on earth were you doing that you got close enough to SMELL him?

  20. Maybe he was getting ready to pose on that tractor for the 2009 John Deere Calender. All the farmers that I have known my whole life didn't look like that, but there were a few that cleaned up real darn well.

  21. Gosh....he may be my kin my cousin always wanted to work cattle by the road so everyone could see him!!!  He was a jerk!!

  22.

Real farmers still  wear dungarees, coveralls etc. I see them all the time here.  You must have gotten close to see that his hair was gelled and the label on his shirt. Maybe he was trying to impress you?

  23. most grain farmers really do not get dirty -- all of the machinery is a/c and they can do most all of the transfer and work with out getting out of the cab!!! where it get tricky is when you throw life stock into the picture!!!
