I have two mickey mouse platys one is larger than the other. They are in a 55 gallon tank with 5 or 6 tetras. Is the smaller one a runt, is it still a juvenile, or is it just a normal size? The smaller one has a white stomach, but the larger one looks fat and I'm wondering if its pregnant.

  1. Yes, females r larger in size. It might me pregnant. Check 2 c if there is a dark spot near its fins, if there is 1 then its definately pregnant.

  2. they are general about the same size unless she's pregnant.  If you are seeing a size difference in length and not the width then that is an age difference if it's in width then your fish is either pregnant or a pig.

Generally the average size of a full grown platy is 2" though I have seen some that are bigger.  Also platies  breed every 28 days, they're as bad as rabbits....so if you want the babies to live make sure you have some place for them to hide

  3. whats a platy?
